Originally from Alabama, Ashton Varner moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in March 2018 to serve as the FNSB Library's first AmeriCorps VISTA in 40 years. She fell in love with Fairbanks' warm community and Alaska's beautiful outdoor adventures. In April 2019, she began service as the VISTA leader and looks forward to growing her personal and professional skills in this role. Next year, she plans to serve as a VISTA in Hawaii. She is a Portland Thorns fan who loves hiking, camping and throwing frisbees in the park. She has one son, a long-haired dachshund named Otzi.
MICHAEL SANDERS, PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Mike Sanders has been the Housing & Homeless Coordinator for the City of Fairbanks since March 2017 and has overseen the local AmeriCorps VISTA program since January 2019. Mike is a certified Project Management Professional with a PhD in Public Policy Administration. Mike is married and the father of two sons.
