What Makes a VISTA?
AmeriCorps VISTA members build capacity, strengthen communities and develop their own careers while focusing on the national issues of poverty, inequity, homelessness and lack of access to education.
AmeriCorps VISTA members come from all walks of life. They are community change agents, altruistic adventurers, gap year go-getters and pragmatic professionals. VISTA encourages members to think globally and act locally. It is perfect for people who want their job to be more than just a job and who are looking to gain new experiences. If interested, you can find a project to serve in your hometown or across the nation.
AmeriCorps VISTA offers support while you serve. Benefits include: a living allowance based on the income level of the community you are serving, relocation allowance (if moving 50+ miles), Segal Education Award, student loan forbearance, healthcare, child care assistance (if eligible), professional development opportunities, and non-competitive eligibility status for future application to federal jobs.
